1991 BMW Z-1
The development of BMW’s Z series began in 1985 with the first production Z1 exhibited at the Frankfurt Auto show in 1987. The Z1 featured plastic body panels, vertically sliding doors and was one of the first models to use BMW’s multi-link rear suspension. BMW’s unique body panels were designed so they could be removed and it was suggested that owners could purchase an extra set so they could change the color of the cars if they chose to. The Z3 followed in 1996.
